Members :
A country with permanent territory located in Indian Ocean littoral, possessing navy or maritime agency can be a member of IONS upon officially accepting the IONS’ Business Charter.
The members improve and support the objectives of IONS and show their enthusiasm to constructively cooperate with other member navies, supervisors or maritime representatives.
Supervisors:
A maritime representative or navy of a country, having permanent territory, located in Indian Ocean littoral, may be officially asked by the periodic chairman to be nominated as the supervising member.
A maritime representative or navy of a country, having permanent territory, located in Indian Ocean littoral with strategic benefits in the region can be nominated as the supervisor only through official submission of a request to be evaluated in the upcoming COC.
The supervisors agree to promote and support IONS’ objectives and show their enthusiasm to constructively cooperate with other member navies, supervisors or maritime representatives.
Chairmanship:
The chair of ions changes in periodic cycles. The transfer of chairmanship is done via a unanimous vote from all members. Periodic chair is elected through following geographic cycles:
Secretary:
Parallel with the transfer of chairmanship, the secretary changes. The IONS secretary keeps a set of previous rules and instructions and also is in charge of providing detailed description of rules, organizing workshops and meetings.
